ometimes courage
trumps skill. That’s the
theory that St. Louis
artist and gardener
Gwendolyn Moore
tested in her garden. “Take a chance.
Be bold,” she says. “Plants can
always be moved. Paint can always
be painted over.”
A dozen years ago, Gwendolyn
painted her garage a mellow yellow,
trimmed in periwinkle blue with
rosy-red doors. Pleased with the
result, she continued with other
garden structures, including a
periwinkle trellis fence with a red
door salvaged from the basement to
serve as a garden gate. “If it doesn’t
move, I paint it,” she says.
In some cases, Gwendolyn knows
exactly why she chooses a color. She
